This policy explains what Consent Mode HQ collects, why, and what control you have over it. It covers this website only. Last updated 22 August 2026.
Who runs this site
Consent Mode HQ is an independent editorial site about consent management, cookie compliance and web tracking. It is the data controller for the processing described below. For any privacy question, including requests to exercise the rights listed further down, write to contact@consentmodehq.com.
What we collect
We do not ask you to create an account and we do not sell anything directly on this site, so there is no order history, no password and no profile attached to you here. What does get processed is:
- Server logs. Our hosting provider records the usual request data — IP address, user agent, referring URL, timestamp — to serve pages and defend against abuse. This happens before any consent decision because the site cannot answer a request without it.
- Analytics. If you allow the analytics category, Google Analytics measures which articles are read and how people move through the site. We use it in aggregate; we do not try to identify individual readers.
- Advertising. If you allow the marketing category, third-party advertising is served on this site, as described in the next section.
- What you send us. If you email us, we keep the message and your address for as long as it takes to deal with it and to keep a record of the exchange.
Advertising, and the cookies that come with it
This site is supported in part by advertising. The disclosures below are the ones Google requires every publisher to make, and they apply whenever ads are being served:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices, or for European readers at youronlinechoices.eu.
- Google’s own explanation of how it uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Opting out of personalised ads does not remove advertising. It means the ads you see stop being selected on the basis of your browsing history.
Cookies and similar technologies
On your first visit you are asked to choose. Nothing beyond the strictly necessary category is set until you do — the site loads with Google Consent Mode defaulting to denied, and only a decision from you moves it. The four categories are:
- Strictly necessary. Required for the site to function: navigation, security, and remembering your consent choice itself. These cannot be switched off.
- Functional. Remembers preferences such as your theme or a dismissed notice.
- Analytics. Aggregated, non-identifying usage data, so we can see which articles are actually read.
- Marketing. Advertising and affiliate attribution, including the third-party advertising cookies described above.
Your choice is stored for 180 days in a first-party cookie named cmhq_consent. You can change or withdraw it at any time with the Cookie preferences link in the footer of every page, and you can clear cookies in your browser independently of us. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already happened while consent was in place.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links to consent management vendors are affiliate links, which means we may be paid a commission if you sign up after clicking one. They are marked as sponsored, they never affect our editorial assessment, and clicking one may let the destination know the visit came from us. What happens on the destination site is governed by that site’s privacy policy, not ours.
Who your data is shared with
We do not sell personal data. Data is processed on our behalf by our hosting provider, by Google for analytics and advertising as described above, and by our email provider when you write to us. Google may process data outside your country; its transfer safeguards are documented in its own privacy policy.
How long it is kept
Analytics data is retained for as long as the Google Analytics property is configured to hold it. Server logs are kept on the hosting provider’s standard rotation. Email correspondence is kept while it is relevant. Your consent cookie expires after 180 days, at which point you are asked again.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access a copy of your data, correct it, have it deleted, object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent, and receive your data in a portable form. Readers in California may additionally request disclosure of the categories of personal information collected and opt out of its sale or sharing — we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined there. Write to contact@consentmodehq.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the EU or UK and are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to your national data protection authority.
Children
This site is written for developers, marketers and compliance teams. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when what we do changes, and the date at the top always reflects the current version. Material changes to how consent is handled will re-prompt the banner.
